Passages

Close up of reeds at Orwell Country Park

Mid August marked another walk with Illuminate, and this time we opted to head to the beautiful Orwell Country Park. As per the previous walks, we were given a concept to capture, and this time it was around the idea of “passages”. Like previous concepts, this is something that is open to interpretation.

For myself, I feel that beyond the frame lies a dimension that is defined by the act of taking the viewer on a journey. This journey, in all its intricacies, can be best encapsulated by the concept of a "passage", lending itself to a gateway where we can look to transport the audience from something mundane to the extraordinary. Seeing an uncharted passage in a photograph can bypass your current place, mindset, and reality, and usher you into an entirely different place, and it soon becomes a means to traverse the boundaries of our everyday existence and embark on a journey of emotions, thoughts, and perceptions. It can be easy as an artist to give no fixed destination to the viewer, as beauty often lies in its ambiguity and allows the viewer to ponder and imagine what lies around the corner.

With the images in this blog, I have endeavoured to create a passage of thought - a captured feeling as I explore somewhere new. My intention was to create something that gives perhaps a sense of wonder, encouraging us to explore the hidden mysteries of what surrounds us in the everyday.
